Kevin K. McQuillan is entering his 29th year as a trial lawyer. He is a 1977 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Law and is currently licensed in multiple states and admitted to the Federal Trial Bar and multiple Federal Courts. He has also been admitted pro hac vice to try cases in various jurisdictions throughout the country. His litigation practice has focused on personal injury and property damage litigation, with an emphasis on product liability, motor vehicle crashworthiness and stability, structural design and construction liability, fires and explosions, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, railroads and ski resort litigation. He also has been involved in product liability counseling for manufacturers, retailers and insurers.
Mr. McQuillan has tried a number of major multiple death, catatrosphic personal injury and property damage jury cases to verdict in courts throughout the county. These trials have included matters involving the collapse of a pre-stressed, post-tensioned segmental bridge under construction, an explosion and fire due to an ignition in a salt bath for heat treatment of aluminum rods, motor vehicle crashworthiness, medical malpractice, high speed overhead doors, sudden acceleration incidents and Sport Utility Vehicle rollover.
He has also been responsible for supervising and conducting the immediate on-site investigation of accidents and large-scale disasters, which has included the preservation and removal of artifacts, including products and major structures, for later investigation and analysis. One of the latest of these matters involved an ethylene oxide (EtO) explosion at a container filling facility.
Kevin also has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, with additional experience in the areas of chemical and petrochemical processing and handling, electrical engineering control systems, microprocessor technology, as well as other areas of product liability. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers association (ATLA), the Illinois Trial Lawyers association (ITLA), the Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and honorary engineering societies of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma.
As a speaker, Mr. McQuillan has been featured nationally in the areas of product liability, motor vehicle crashworthiness, restraints, dynamics and stability, fire and explosion investigations, personal injury litigation, issues pertaining to ethics and civility among both the legal and engineering professions, expert witnesses, the use of hi-tech multimedia presentations in conjunction with litigation and issues related to ski resorts. Some of the presentation forums have included the American Bar Association (ABA), the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Attorney's Information Exchange Group (AIEG), ASME, SAE, National Manufacturing Week, the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), the National Ski Patrol (NSP) and the University of Wisconsin Department of Engineering Professional Development.
Kevin's wife is a physical therapist at one of the major rehabilitation facilities in the United States where she specialized in head injury. They have two sons who they faithfully follow to lacrosse games. All four are avid snow skiers and Kevin is a senior rated member of the National Ski Patrol, where he volunteers his time to assist and provide medical emergency medical care on the slopes and is currently the volunteer Patrol Director at a Midwest resort.
